Sweet Little Hummer

018We’re hanging on tight to every minute we have with the little hummers. We’ve probably gotten up to 35-40 now and they really come out to play toward dusk. They like to perch on the hollyhocks or a thorny little tree in the back yard. I don’t know what they like that mean one, but they do. They’ll probably Continue reading

002Never buy end of the season flowers that have lost their tags. You might wind up with all white (and one red) ones! They are flourishing though. I’ll have to transplant some white ones elsewhere and replace with some colored ones for variety.

Unscented Odor Blocked – Laundry???

Have you ever opened up your washer and seen dozens of foreign objects floating around, along with hundreds of ¼” pieces of cardboard??? It’s an odd feeling – you’ll have to try it sometime.
I had been working on the yard too long and wasn’t exactly paying proper attention to what I was doing. Imagine my surprise when I saw all those wonderful Hefty, 13-gallon trash Continue reading

052 copyWe were treated to a dozen or so hummingbirds at our feeders last night – but they wouldn’t all pose for me at the same time! Nothing like in ’07 when we had around fifty and were refilling feeders three times a day. The deck buzzed with their activity. Such fun to watch. Mischievous little things. 🙂

No Rest for New Parents

Baby tree swallow #1. It appears that he has two siblings. They aren’t ready to meet the world yet but it shouldn’t be too much longer. The parents are definitely kept busy bringing home the insects! Yuk! It takes thousands of prey per day to feed the babies. (Aren’t we glad our little ones just need milk!) They also are still working hard to keep them warm. The temperatures here have been cooler than usual so it increases their workload. Never a minute’s rest for parents of new babies. 🙂
