Watch Where you Step!

015The wind blew us into Sydney, Nebraska our first day out. My husband always has his priorities right – first stop Cabela’s – see previous post. It seemed like whichever way we were going there was a crosswind – a strong one!
The pond on Cabela’s grounds is beautiful and filled with hundreds of geese. They occupy the pond, walk all around the area, and settle their little families wherever they want to. It’s a delight – just as long as you watch where you step!

Cute B&Jscan0001I’ll get back to the Kansas trip soon, but today is our 55th wedding anniversary. We are going to Texas Roadhouse at Idaho Falls, Idaho – and we’ll be going early so we can get home before dark…being so old and all.

004In 1961 Dick Cabella attended a furniture show in Chicago where he purchased some fishing flies. Upon his return home in Chappell, Nebraska he put an ad in the Casper, Wyoming paper offering “12 hand-tied flies for one dollar.” He got one response – so he Continue reading →

A Hug Please

My husband was visiting with his 92 year old mother the other evening. At the end of the phone call I heard him say that yes, he would give me a hug from her. I knew when he hung up that he’d already forgotten, so I decided to have some fun with it. I let enough time pass to know he’d never think of it again. Our recliners are side by side (so that we can hear one another) and I said, “ From this end of the conversation I think your mother asked you to give me a hug.” He looked surprised and replied, “Oh. Yes she did.” Then my tired, 73 year old husband looked at me with pleading eyes and said, “At our age we need to conserve our strength. The next time we’re both standing up I’ll give you a hug.”
One thing you develop with age is a sense of humor!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all dads out there. Despite all the men-bashing jokes we love you guys to pieces! My family wasn’t a huggy-huggy family but I had no doubt that my dad loved me with all his heart. He did the best he could to take care of his family while dealing with his share of health issues.
My father-in-law was a dear man, albeit a very outspoken one. He left no doubt Continue reading →

Honey, Will You Hurry Up?

013My husband, Bob, mentioned that I was remiss in not mentioning that the male acts as sentinel during the egg laying process. He perches for endless amounts of time on a nearby feeder while the female tends to her business inside the bird house. The papa bird looks like a man sitting in the car waiting while his wife shops… the difference being that a man will probably be reading a book while the bird is constantly monitoring the goings-on around them.

042Before we moved here we lived in Evanston, Wyoming, and there were two large trees in our front yard. Often, when I went out the front door to go to work, their music would stop me in my tracks! It truly started my day off right to stand there for a few minutes listening to them (and trying to find them – which I usually couldn’t). I don’t know much about birds except that I like them.
My husband, Bob, put a little birdhouse just off our back deck here. A couple soon decided to make it their home. We’re not sure what kind of birds they are, but from checking on the internet they look like a tree swallow or a bluebird thrush. So sweet. There are now several eggs in the nest. They seem to lay one, then nothing for a few days, then another one shows up.
Don’t let the open front worry you. It has a door that we can lift to the side briefly for viewing. We’ll keep you posted on our little family.
