064Buffalo Bill Cody, one of America’s biggest celebrities, was on a hunting expedition about 50 miles west of Cody, Wyoming (a town named after him) and a couple of miles from the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park, when he found an area he loved. He determined that a hunting lodge needed to be built there and he marked the spot with an ax. Construction began shortly after that and in 1905 the doors to the Pahaska Tepee opened to tourists.
The lodge was surrounded by porches on the north, south, and east. Bill’s suite was over the east porch. There were six more bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor, with seven additional rooms on the first level. A kitchen and dining area was added in 1920. It is now open for tours and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and List of Registered Historic Places in Wyoming.

025We recently took a road trip through Yellowstone National Park, by Yellowstone Lake, and on through to Cody. It’s such a beautiful place! The raven let me know it was her territory, not mine. The elk was along side the highway. As always, photographers were everywhere creating traffic issues (me included). 🙂 That’s one reason it’s 45 mph going through the park. It’s worth the extra time.

My husband snapped this photo this morning to show how tall the hollyhocks have gotten. I am 5'10"- the hollyhocks are over 6'. I didn't know there were any that grew that tall! They are waning now (and I haven't been keeping up with the deadheading) but we're still enjoying them.
My husband also told me that he thought I looked pretty cute – for an old lady… Honesty – 100%. Tact 0%.

IMG_2151 IMG_2149 IMG_2147 IMG_2145 IMG_2144There is a lovely park in Pinedale, Wyoming – a great place to stop for a picnic or just to walk through the area. One thing that makes it special is the stream running through it with lots of trees and shrubs. We got quite a surprise when we came around a corner along that stream! Momma and baby moose. Such a treat! We backed away very quietly and carefully, but not before I got some cool photos.

018We’re hanging on tight to every minute we have with the little hummers. We’ve probably gotten up to 35-40 now and they really come out to play toward dusk. They like to perch on the hollyhocks or a thorny little tree in the back yard. I don’t know what they like that mean one, but they do. They’ll probably Continue reading →
